Week 4 saw a quieter week with many BUCS teams having a rest (with Byes into the 2nd round of cups).

We still had 40 entertaining matches take place, with 15 at home and 25 away.

Many of the away matches were from the opening group fixtures of the BUCS Indoor cricket, where our 3 teams completed no fewer than 12 matches.

Credit goes to our Women’s cricket team, which was made up of complete novices who supported our aim of completing all fixtures and having fun in the process.

314 Essex students competed in 40 matches (15 home and 25 away), coming away with 16 wins, 1 draw, and 23 losses.

Highlights include:

  • Football Women’s 1st achieved a vital win and lifted themselves from the bottom of the premiership with a well fought 3-2 win over Cardiff Met 1st.
  • Football Men’s 5th progressed to the 2nd round of the Conference Trophy with a 3-1 away win at Surrey 5ths.
  • Lacrosse Men vs Kent 3rds received an easy Home walkover win as the opposition “Kent” be bothered to turn up for the second successive week.
  • Rugby Men’s 2nd travelled to Reading in what was always going to be their toughest match so far with a 99-5 scoreline to Reading.  Despite a heavy loss the team deserve credit for sticking at it, these are character building matches and will help build resilience for future matches.
  • Tennis Men’s 2nd quickly disposed of the Canterbury Mens 1st team in the 1st round of the Conference Cup.
