SU FIREWORKS UPDATE

Due to a yellow weather warning we’re moving SU Fireworks from this Thursday 2nd November to Tuesday 7th November.

Please share this with anyone else you know who was planning to come Thursday.


Grab your winter coats and woolly hats, the spectacular SU Fireworks is back for another year! 

This is a full professional fireworks display set to music and is completely free for SU Members*! No ticket required just turn up with your student card at the ready!

It's not all about the fireworks though. Food trucks, society and club stallholders, and a main stage hosted by our incredible Rebel Student Media and other peformances.

FOOD 

We're pleased to announce that we will have the following food trucks & stalls:

Shwings | SU BBQ | Wok N Roll | Mob Pizza | Greedy Vegan

 

STALLS

Our SU Sports Clubs & Societies will also be selling hand warmers, toffee apples, hot drinks, glow sticks and much more!

There will be a number of performances on the stage from Chloe and Mia and the Music Society.

This is going to be an amazing night you don't want to miss, see you down by the lakes!

Sparklers, umbrellas and laser pointers are prohibited.

Entrance 

The entrance point is located at the top of the Ivor Crewe Hill.

MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC

Members of the public, Alumni and Staff will be charged £5 on entry.

FAQS

Q. When do fireworks start?

A. The event will start at 6pm, the fireworks will be let off no later than 8pm depending on conditions.

Q. I'm a student in Southend or Loughton, can I attend?

A. Yes, you are an SU member and will have free entry to the event, we will subsidise the cost of your travel on public transport by £15 on proof of a valid receipt.

Q. I'm an Alumni, can I attend?

A. Yes, we would love for you to come back to campus. Please note the event is only free for current University of Essex Students (on proof of valid student ID). Everyone else will be asked to pay a £5 entry fee per person towards the cost of running the event.

Q. Do University staff members need to pay?

A. All staff are welcome to attend with their families. Please note this year’s event is only free for current University of Essex Students (on proof of valid student ID). Everyone else will be asked to pay a £5 entry fee per person towards the cost of running the event. Under 5’s go free.

Q. Can children attend?

A. Yes, all children are welcome to the event. Please note there is a £5 charge per person (under 5’s go free). Dependents of current University of Essex Students will be admitted free entry. Partners will also be required to pay the entry fee. The Silberrad foyer will be open as an optional viewing space for those with young children.

Q. Can I bring my partner/friends?

A. Yes you can. If they are not a current University of Essex Student they will be required to pay the £5 entry fee.

Q. What provisions are in pace for those with additional needs?

A. There will be a wheelchair accessible/seated viewing area. A sensory/low noise area will be available on request and earbuds can be provided upon request. Our aim is to make this a fully inclusive event. If you have any specific requirements or would like to use any of the dedicated viewing areas, please email suengagement@essex.ac.uk in advance of the event.

Q. How can I pay my entry fee?

A. We will have cash tills and card readers available at the entry points

Q. Is parking free?

A. There will be no charge for parking after 4.30pm. Please park in the multi storey carpark next to the sports arena (wivenhoe side of campus)

Q. Can I pay in advance/pre book?

A. Pre-booking is not available. Please pay in cash or with a card on arrival at the event. Staff will be on hand to minimise queues and the event will be open from 6pm.

Q. Will there be food?

A. Yes there will be a variety of food stalls on the night located near the car park.

Q. Can I purchase/bring alcohol in to the event?

A. No we will not be serving alcohol in the event space. No glass will be allowed on site. Staff reserve the right to refuse entry or remove anyone unduly under the influence of alcohol.

Q. If the weather is bad, Can in bring an umbrella?

A. Due to health and saftey concerns, umbrellas are not permitted at the event.
